Spring is here
Bees are alive and well and well on their way to establishing them as strong and healthy colonies. After 2 seasons of beekeeping with Top Bar Hives I can say that bees love their home. Top Bar Hive seems perfect for natural, low intrusion, sustainable beekeeping. You can expect at least 10kg honey each year with one to two swarms that allow you to expand your beekeeping operation or sell swarms for profit. If done simple it can be quite lucrative alternative to commercial equipment used today around the world. Here are some signs of spring :)
First photos of bees in 2010 !
Beautiful sight :)

TBH resources
Spring is here and bees are already flying around and gathering pollen like crazy. Not much nectar sources yet but Wild Cherry is slowly starting to flower and bees are happy. Soon they will start building new comb and gather nectar. For all of you who are starting with Top Bar Hives I decided to list some resources where you can find more information that will get you started.
Now it is time to build hives, prepare all equipment and 2010 beekeeping season can begin :)
Resources :
- M. Bush Top Bar Hives One of the sites that got me started with TBH beekeeping. Great resource and easy to follow plans to build Top Bar Hive. I decided to standardize on Bush TBH design.

- TBH forum New kid on the block. It looks like a great forum for all TBH beekeepers, experienced and new beekeepers.
- Beesource TBH forum Another forum with huge amount of TBH beekeeping
I posted some links, mostly to the beekeeping communities because I think it is best to register and participate in discussions. You will learn a lot. Don't hesitate to comment in comments section about your TBH beekeeping experience. Do send comments if you find some TBH resource.

Top Bar Hives in my Beeyard
Time passed from latest post on this web site and in the meanwhile my beeyard is expanding. Now there are 5 top bar hives and 2 frame hives all healthy and full of bees. Robinia pseudoacacia also known as Black Locust is in full bloom and you can smell it in the evening. What a beautiful smell that is. Hoping for nice amount of honey this year since bees are making and filling comb like crazy.
After I experimented on top bar hives designs I settled with Bush bees Kenyan top bar hive. It is of simple design, big enough and very easy to make. I recommend everyone who is interested in hobby, small scale beekeeping to try top bar hives. You will never look back and you will enjoy beekeeping in full.
